Scholarship Awards

Cynthia and Berenise at the Mac Store.
We are proud to announce Berenise Delgado as our 1st annual Portland
School’s Alliance Scholarship recipient. Berenise was awarded a new
laptop and printer that will support her as she begins Oregon State
University's Engineering Program.
She
writes: "My name is Berenise Delgado, the seond born of four and the
first to graduate from high school and attend college. I am a hard
worker and am determined to better myself by going to college and bring
pride to my community. Getting to this point, the beginning of my
journey to adulthood has been one full of trips and falls; yet I always
get up with my best foot forward and maintain my poise. Everything I
have, I have earned, I have had to work hard each and every step of the
way; whether it was getting a part-time job to help my mother with the
bills, or staying after school so that I could understand a problem." Upon
reflecting on her future challenges she states: Engineering is "a field
mostly dominated by men. Luckily, I love a good challenge, but even
more so, I love accomplishing my goals. Now I am faced with a more
daunting ambition: how to pay for my higher education?" PSA
is honored to have had the opportunity to support this bright ambitious
Latina leader. Cynthia Gomez, PSA co-chair, maintains ongoing contact
with Berenise and will continue to offer support throughout her
academic career. Berenise is a graduate of Portland Public School District's Roosevelt High School. |
